Climate change has become one of the greatest challenges facing humanity today. The impacts include rising global temperatures, melting polar ice, increasing the frequency and intensity of natural disasters, and changes in rainfall patterns. All of this threatens ecosystems, food and human health. Around the world, many countries are feeling the direct impacts of climate change. In archipelagic countries, such as Indonesia, climate change causes sea levels to rise which has the potential to submerge small islands. Meanwhile, in arid areas, prolonged drought threatens food security and water sources for local residents. According to the IPCC report, we have experienced an average global temperature increase of 1.2 degrees Celsius since the pre-industrial era. To face this challenge, real solutions are needed. First, the transition to renewable energy sources is essential. Solar, wind and hydro energy not only reduce carbon emissions, but also provide better energy security. Countries such as Germany and Denmark have shown that investment in green technology can create jobs and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Second, sustainable forest management and reforestation must be a priority. Forests function as carbon dioxide sinks, and forest degradation exacerbates climate change. Programs such as REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) provide incentives for countries to protect their forests. Third, increasing public awareness through environmental education is also needed. The younger generation can be agents of change in promoting environmentally friendly practices. Local initiatives such as recycling programs and tree planting campaigns can play a big role in reducing the carbon footprint. Fourth, the application of more efficient technology in agriculture can also help. Sustainable agriculture, such as the use of organic fertilizer, water-saving irrigation techniques, and selecting climate-resistant seeds, can increase production without damaging the environment. Countries like Ethiopia that have implemented agroforestry techniques have seen positive results. Collaborating internationally is also very important. Agreements such as the Paris Agreement emphasize the importance of a global commitment to reducing emissions. Countries must work together on research and innovation to find more effective solutions regarding climate change adaptation. Finally, the role of the private sector cannot be ignored. Companies must commit to reducing their emissions through responsible business practices. The use of environmentally friendly raw materials and more efficient production are steps that can be taken to achieve sustainability goals. By implementing these solutions in an integrated manner, we can face the increasingly urgent challenge of climate change. Collective efforts from individuals, communities, governments and the private sector will be key to reducing the impacts of climate change and protecting our planet for future generations.
